Rachel Brehm, LMHC
Hello, and welcome! I know that looking for a therapist can feel overwhelming and even a little daunting at times. I hope that sharing a bit about who I am and how I work helps you feel more at ease as you take these meaningful steps toward healing.
I am a licensed mental health counselor providing therapy throughout New York. I work with individuals who want to better understand their story, explore how their past impacts their present, and move toward healing and growth. Using evidence-based tools and a relational approach, I aim to help clients feel supported and challenged to grow and change in meaningful ways.
Therapy is not about fixing you. It is about understanding you more fully and helping you move forward with clarity and intention. I aim to create a steady, nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly and feel genuinely heard. You do not need perfect words or a clear plan. We begin exactly where you are.
I consider it a privilege to walk alongside you through your suffering, fears and challenges as you move toward healing. My hope is that counseling would be a safe place where you can experience increased purpose and joy.
I believe therapy works best when there is a strong, genuine connection between us. When you feel comfortable and understood, it becomes much easier to have honest conversations and do meaningful work.
I want to know what makes you you.
My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I integrate attachment-informed and skills-based work to support both insight and practical change. Alongside depth and reflection, I also value moments of lightness. Whimsy and humor can be part of the process, because growth does not have to feel heavy all the time. Laughter is healing too!
Throughout the process, my aim is for you to feel both supported and empowered as you work toward lasting, sustainable change.
My Approach
Experience
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in nonprofit development at multiple organizations supporting children who have experienced abuse and neglect. This experience deeply shaped my understanding of trauma and resilience and the importance of advocacy work.
Since transitioning into counseling, I have worked as a trauma systems therapist providing in-home therapy to children and families throughout Manhattan. I have also worked in group practice settings supporting children, adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds. Both experiences have strengthened my clinical skills and my commitment to client advocacy - greatly informing my current practice.
Education & Training
I earned my B.S. in Education from the University of Texas at Austin (hook ‘em!), with a concentration in Youth and Social Services and a minor in Communication Studies. I later completed my M.A. in Mental Health Counseling at City College of New York, where I received comprehensive clinical training in evidence-based therapeutic practice.
I regularly participate in supervision, attend trainings, and am committed to staying at the forefront of mental health research to maintain a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to counseling
